Biography

The Massacoustics are an Americana duo built on the idea that great songs and great musicianship can still fill a room without the help of technology. With gritty guitars, driving rhythm, bass, and the unmistakable blend of brothers' harmony, the band delivers a sound that feels far bigger than two players.

Originally rooted in the hills and backroads of Western Massachusetts, the band's music draws from the traditions of roots rock, alt-country, blues, and classic country storytelling. Their songs carry the spirit of rural America—honest, unpolished, and emotionally direct.

What sets The Massacoustics apart is their commitment to authenticity. The band performs everything live with no loopers, backing tracks, or studio tricks they can't reproduce on stage. Guitar, bass, drums, and harmony combine into a stripped-down but powerful sound that connects immediately with audiences.

Guitarist and lead singer Andrew Thompson and drummer and bassist Matthew Thompson have spent decades immersed in the music industry. In 1991, both brothers made the move to Nashville—Andrew to pursue a career as a songwriter, producer, and engineer, Matthew to write songs and play sessions. That shared commitment to craft has shaped everything The Massacoustics do.

The brothers previously performed together as The Thompson Brothers, signing with RCA Records and touring internationally—building a foundation of real-world stage and studio experience that still drives their work today.

With their latest release Water Keeps Rising and growing audiences across the region and beyond, The Massacoustics continue to prove that two brothers, a great story, and a lot of road miles can still build something real.

Forged in the hills of Western Massachusetts, the band blends roots rock, alt-country, and classic Americana storytelling into a raw, road-tested sound. With no loopers or backing tracks, everything is played live—proving two brothers can still shake a room like a full band.

The Massacoustics are an Americana duo delivering the sound and energy of a full band with just two musicians. Built on gritty guitars, driving rhythm, bass, and brothers' harmony, their sound blends roots rock, alt-country, and classic country storytelling.

Everything the band performs is created live—no loopers, backing tracks, or studio tricks—just real musicianship and road-tested songs.

Guitarist and lead singer Andrew Thompson and drummer and bassist Matthew Thompson both moved to Nashville in 1991—Andrew to pursue songwriting, producing, and engineering, Matthew to write songs and play sessions. That shared foundation of real-world recording and touring experience, including international touring with The Thompson Brothers after signing with RCA Records, fuels everything the band does today.

Today The Massacoustics focus on building a national following the old-fashioned way: strong songs, relentless touring, and authentic connection with audiences. Typical sets run 45 to 90 minutes and scale to festival stages, club rooms, and listening rooms alike.

Guitarist and lead singer Andrew Thompson and drummer and bassist Matthew Thompson both made the move to Nashville in 1991—Andrew to build a career as a songwriter, producer, and touring musician, Matthew to write songs and play sessions. That background includes international touring with The Thompson Brothers following an RCA Records deal.

With a sound that sits comfortably alongside artists like Jason Isbell and modern roots rock artists, The Massacoustics are building momentum through consistent touring, new releases, and grassroots audience growth. Their latest single Water Keeps Rising delivers exactly that—honest, road-tested songwriting built for both radio and the stage.
